Celebrating 15 Years of Geopointe

From graduation parties to wedding ceremonies, this time of year is full of festivities. We’ve got one more celebration to add to your calendar: the anniversary of your favorite Salesforce app. That’s right — Geopointe is turning fifteen.

In honor of our fifteenth anniversary on May 24, 2025, we’re taking a walk down memory lane. Keep reading for a look back at some of our favorite moments from Geopointe’s history and the people who contributed along the way.

The Early Years

While 2010 marks the official birth of Geopointe as we know it, our story starts back in the early 2000’s. Scott Hemmeter, a CPA turned Salesforce consultant, had a lightbulb moment after witnessing the popularity of Google Maps. Salesforce reports did a great job of explaining the “what” and “when” behind account activity, but not the “where.” Why not put them on a map?

After dabbling in geocoding and blogging about it on Salesforce message boards, Hemmeter launched Arrowpointe Maps in 2006. Fun fact: he named the company after his dog, Arrow! The server-based application quickly accrued a small community of users. As the Salesforce platform evolved, so did the application. In 2010, Hemmeter scrapped Arrowpointe Maps and launched Geopointe as a Salesforce-native application. Little did he know it would become one of the most popular sales mapping solutions on the market!

Geopointe joined the Salesforce AppExchange on May 24, 2010 and quickly became popular with Salesforce users. Here’s what some of our early customers said way back when:

  • “Geopointe is the most important app we use… I typically don’t do reviews but Geopointe was a game changer for us and deserves the recognition.” – Douglas Arrison, Dasolar.com
  • “I have been looking for something that could do what this app can do for years… Thanks to Geopointe we are more organized than we have ever been.” – Bryan Barnes, LA Pool Guys

Spoiler alert: these two customers are still with us today! Thanks to their positive reviews and dozens more like them, we received the 2012 AppExchange Customer Choice Award in the Geolocation category.

The Ascent

As Geopointe gained traction, we started hiring employees and established our first official office in Orange, CA. Early product enhancements focused on Routing, Shapes, and Custom Objects. We also launched a Geopointe app for Salesforce1 (now Salesforce Mobile) and introduced key functionality like Add to Campaign, Heat Maps, Automated Territory Assignments, Mobile Check-in, Layer Manager, and a new Data Sets tab.

In 2015, we added a second office just outside of San Francisco. As our team doubled in size, we doubled down on product enhancements including:

  • Multilingual support
  • Mass Update capabilities
  • Thematic Layers
  • Integrations with Rideshare and Navigation Apps
  • One-Click Search

2017 was a big year. After being named one of America’s fastest-growing private companies by Inc. Magazine, we were acquired by Ascent Group, a Detroit-based technology investment group founded by Larry and David Leinweber. We also reached 500 AppExchange reviews and introduced new product features like Asset and Vehicle Live Tracking, as well as Real-time Geocoding capabilities.

Over the next few years, we continued to innovate and listen to our customers’ needs. Here’s a few popular features we launched during 2018 – 2019:

  • Route Planner
  • Calendar-Based Scheduling
  • Additional Layers including weather and WMS
  • Multi-currency support

In 2020, we merged with LevelEleven, a sales coaching and gamification software, to form Ascent Cloud under the leadership of David Leinweber. Together, we offer the most comprehensive suite of sales performance management solutions on the market, helping sales teams plan, execute, and grow with confidence.

The Present

That brings us to today! So far this year, we’ve launched AI-powered Insights, Agentforce Actions, and various user experience enhancements. We’ve mingled with customers at Agentforce events and hosted our first-ever Ascent Cloud customer meetup with many Geopointe users in attendance. As of this writing, we have 925+ AppExchange reviews, maintain a 4.9 rating from our customers, and are a top ten app in the Sales category overall.

While our product has evolved heavily over the years, it’s the people who have made Geopointe what it is today. Our team includes many long-term employees who are passionate about building great products, delivering great customer service, and being great people to work with.

Today, we’re a Detroit-based organization with a second office in Petaluma and remote employees across the country. Many of our team members have grown right alongside the company, starting as sales development representatives and evolving into account manager, marketing, product, or engineering roles.

From our humble beginnings as a blog experiment to becoming a leading geolocation app for modern sales teams, the Geopointe journey has been anything but dull. Where will the next fifteen years take us? We can’t wait to find out.
